Update on my life

Purple Locust Trees in my Backyard

I know I haven’t posted here in a long time.  I haven’t been working on my book, so there’s been nothing to post.  However, I’m still thinking about the rewrites for my book as I tackle all the other things around here.  My absence is due to other issues such as moving preparation, yard work, cats, etc.  It’s been far too long, so I thought I’d post about these subjects today.  I hope to get back to regular posting soon.

The great news is that it’s spring here and warmer.  Yeah!  It’s been in the lower eighties here except for the last several days.  Due to the changeable desert weather, we’ve had high winds and cooler temperatures, at times chilly, at least to me, but then I’m a wimp when it comes to cold weather.  It’s nice to have the windows open, but I know this situation won’t last long here and it’ll be A/C time.

I’m still weeding out stuff around here, taking pictures, and posting ads on Craigslist.  It’s amazing all the things a person can accumulate over ten years.  I’m not sure if I’ll ever finish this job.  I may end up throwing the stuff into boxes and moving it with us.  Sometimes it seems as if the accomplishment is slow.  My sewing and craft area is done, but I haven’t started on my office yet, or the garage.  Both of these places are nightmares.  Selling books will be an extremely hard job for me.  My head isn’t there yet.

It’s great to wake up on those few days that you feel like pitching out a bunch of stuff.  That doesn’t happen often for me.

Many plants froze over the record-cold winter, so yard work has been a real priority.  We can’t put a for sale up if the yard looks crappy.  The outside has to look nice so people will want to see the inside.  It’s a plain killer digging out and cutting down dead trees and big bushes.  The next two days I don’t feel like doing a thing except sitting down.

 Raven in my office

The kitten is an angel and really getting tall.  He’ll be six months old in a week or so.  He purrs all the time and is the most good-natured cat I’ve ever had.  Believe me I’ve had many cats.  The problem here is that he bonded with Tootie and ended up scratching her eye when they were wrestling.  Now she has a corneal ulcer I’ve been treating the last month or two.  I think it’s slowly getting better.  This continues to be an issue around here.  I have to be available to doctor her eye and put the collar on her for a couple of hours afterwards so she’ll leave her eye alone.  She’s been a little trooper about the whole thing, but she’s always been a mellow cat.  She’s supposed to wear the collar all the time, but my husband can’t stand looking at her with it on and feels she needs more freedom.  So far, this seems to be working out okay.  Most of the medicine has soaked in by then.  I don’t know how much longer we’ll be dealing with this eye issue.

 Koki

Koki won’t have anything to do with Raven at all.  I hope she changes her mind about him.  She’ll nose him and then hiss and stomp off.  She doesn’t like the fact she isn’t the baby anymore.

The squirrel trying to reach the bird feeders

Today the big squirrel showed up for the first time since he left for winter hibernation.  I’m glad he’s still alive and made it.  I feel so bad for the animals that have to survive here.  I got some great pics of him trying to get at the bird feeders.  He must be hungry.

There are no baby quail yet, but we should see them next month.

The lizard living in the fireplace makes his appearance everyday.  We can’t block the hole where he gets in because the fireplace needs a vent space.  I have no idea why he likes to hang out in there looking at us through the screen and glass.  He perches on the logs as if he’s king of the hill.  The cats are entertained.

I want to thank you writers for reading all this.  This post should go on my other blog, but I’m doing the A to Z Challenge over there this month.  I didn’t want to wait to post something here.

Happy writing everyone

Thanks Debi,

I joined yours by email because you have a lot of things to say that I'm interested in. You have a great imagination, girl, and I like that.

I hope we can learn from each other.

Yes, moving is a bitch. Craigslist is my best friend too, next to Google, which I use all the time for research.
